Position Summary: Provides overall assistance to classroom Lead Teacher. Evaluates and monitors student performance. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the education field. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision of Lead Teacher.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide assistance to classroom Lead Teacher in preparing lesson plans and instructing students.
  • Must communicate with parents on a variety of topics.
  • Provide a safe learning environment for the children.
  • Effectively use the radio to communicate Code 1, Code 2, Code 3, LC, Lock Down procedures, and First Aid Procedures to ensure the safety of our children.
  • Ability to comply with all Hillsborough County Licensing guidelines.
  • Must be available Supervise extended care coverage that ranges from 7am-9am.
  • Classroom duties—helping the children with lunch and snack, keeping the room clean, interacting with the children during playtime etc. and other related duties as assigned.
  • Implement creative Science based curriculum.
  • Complete 10-inservice hours per year July 1- June 30 fiscal year.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Skills Needed:
  • Knowledge of early childhood development.
  • Ability to enjoy working with children 12 months-5 years of age.
  • Flexibility to manage workload to ensure timely completion of assignments.
  • Ability to work independently, with general direction from the Lead Teacher.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage all aspects of a classroom with the complete knowledge of Hillsborough County Licensing guidelines and Sunshine State Standards.
  • Ability to work well with the public of all ages and provides a high level of service to zoo visitors, program participants, and zoo staff.
  • Working knowledge of effective educational techniques.
  • Implement creative Science based curriculum.
  • Stand by the practices of recycling and reusing.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Education Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree, in early childhood development or elementary education, or CDA equivalent preferably, as well as some working knowledge of biology, zoology or a related field.

A comparable amount of training and experience may substitute for minimum qualifications.

Must have 40 hours current CPR and First Aid Cards.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds, play actively with children on their level, bend over, stand for extensive periods of time, move quickly when necessary, and work and move outside in the typical Florida climate, at times temperatures exceeding 90 degrees.
