Summer Camps

Over the summer, the Zoo School at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo is headquarters for more than 100 week-long camps for students who have completed K-8th grades. Kids and teens can learn about nature, science and the animal kingdom while hiking through the Zoo, exploring behind-the-scenes and cooling off in the Zoo's water play areas. Adventure camps include animal encounters, keeper talks, educational shows, games, crafts and more.

A typical day at Summer Camp Includes:

  • Zoo hikes
  • Classroom lessons with pictures and artifacts
  • Daily animal encounter or animal enrichment
  • Activities based on the weekly camp theme
  • Arts and crafts projects
  • Animal shows
  • Animal feedings
  • Keeper talks
  • Educational videos

Time:
Camp begins PROMPTLY at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.. Monday through Friday. If you need to drop your child off before 8:55 a.m. or pick them up after 4 p.m., you MUST sign up for Extended Care.

Hillsborough County School Holiday Camps

No School?  No Problem! K-8th grade students, join Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo for fun and education during school breaks.

A typical day at camp includes:
• Zoo hikes
• Classroom lessons with pictures & artifacts

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Morning (AM) Extended Care: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Classes & Programs

Parents' Night Out

Looking for more than just a babysitter? Trust your children to the professional Education Department staff at the Zoo. Take advantage of our reliable service that includes entertainment, a pizza snack, and drinks while you go out and have a wild time!


Program Information:

• Ages 3-10 (must be potty trained)
• 1st Saturday of each month
• Drop off at 5:30 p.m., Pick up at 11 p.m.
• $30 for one child, $10 for each additional child. ($40 for one child, $20 for each additional child for October's ZooBoo and December's Wild Wonderland)
• One week advance registration is required

 

Drop n’ Shop Help for the Holidays


Let us help you during this busy time of the year. While you are getting some of your holiday shopping and errands done, your child will be hiking through the Zoo, visiting live reindeer, enjoying an animal encounter/enrichment, and making holiday crafts. All of this is topped off with hot cocoa and cookies!

Program Information:

• Ages 3-10 (must be potty trained)
• December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21
• Drop off at 9:30 a.m. • Pick up at 3 p.m.
• $30 for one child, $10 for each additional child
• Must bring snack and lunch

Home School Programs
For K-8th Grades

Home School classes at the Zoo are interactive and hands-on. Animal-based classroom lessons are followed immediately by application with an animal encounter and/or Zoo Hike. Participants may express their creativity with a themed craft or experiment and also interact with their peers in classroom activities. All students receive a certificate of participation. Parent involvement is optional.

Program Information:

  • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Zoo Pass Holders $25/
    Non-Zoo Pass Holders $30
  • Classes take place rain or shine

One week advance registration is required.

Children must be at least 5 years old to attend the K-2 classes.

Home School Group Rates for Grades Pre-K-12

  • 1 free chaperone per 5 student ages 5 and under
  • 1 free chaperone per 10 students ages 6 and up and mixed groups (ex: a group with K-2nd graders)
  • Free parking
  • Minimum of 15 paying visitors required for group rate
  • Payment must be made collectively, not individually, and paid on arrival

Animal Careers Teen Workshops

Do you love animals? Do you hope to work in a zoo one day? This workshop is a perfect opportunity for teens, ages 13-17,  to learn more about animal-related careers and to get to know some of the animals at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo up-close. 


Workshop includes:
• Introduction to animal careers
• An animal encounter
• A Zoo tour consisting of a “behind the scenes” component and an enrichment or husbandry experience.

Dates & Times:
Saturday, September 27, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Monday, October 20, 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Tuesday, November 11, 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Sunday, December 7, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.


Cost: $25*
*Does not include Zoo admission before or after workshop.
